Seeking Greater Meaning and Understanding

When speaking of mental health in general, developing a better understanding of what your emotions are telling you involves some critical understanding of your own mental abilities and how you may be able to make them stronger by looking at things more realistically.

What are some of the obstacles you may have noticed and found to be a bit difficult to put into the right perspective in this process, either for yourself or for others?

Lacking the upbeat emotions and learning how to live without them. There is also the emptiness that come with it.

Thanks for your comment - quite a good self-reflection!

Why do you think you lack these emotions? Have you ever tried to think of ways, using your imagination, or any part of your own mind to ever so slightly, create these emotions from within your own self?

I don't know if they are just crushed under the weight of my sadness or what but i don't often feel happy, enthusiastic, content, etc.. and when i do it is fleeting. I am not able to have anticipatory pleasure at all. In otherword i don't look forward to things such as spending time with friends.

P.S. I have lost my ability to be creative since it requires a clear mind. I have not been able to work in my chose field for years because of this.

Are we trying to share our feelings and hope to find some insights to learn and make more sense of it all, how to cope with things a bit better?

The key to the whole exercise may just be for us to seek a clearer view of reality, growing our mental abilities to shape our thoughts in ways which reduce or eliminate our emotional discomfort through having a clearer understanding of what we can do for ourselves, either on our own, or with the help of others, who may have good ideas or suggestions of how we can aim more directly at better ways of thinking of our situations we find ourselves ... but want to grow out of!

Do you shape your own thoughts to understand your emotions better or do you let your emotions shape the way you think and feel about them?

I am not a regular part of this group, but this post grabbed my attention. So I decided to stop by and see what help you all could be to this old lady who has been trying for so long to understand my limited ability to change or regulate my emotions, stop critical thinking, and just find inner peace and better coping skills.

I think that I am ready to dig deeper into understanding the methods of self-regulation, but I have no insight into how to get off the ground. I have put in so much effort that I am just worn out and unmotivated. How can you help me get to a better way of thinking and evaluating my issues?

Making changes in my thought process is more than just doing

it. How do you determine the things that no longer serve us and get the brain to begin to make changes? My experience is that I say positive stuff with the mouth but the brain and heart do not seem to be receptive. There is a conflict between the mind and the will and the ability that makes this such a struggle. I need and want change but I can't find the road or pathway.

Does anyone understand and have a solution? I am wondering around in circles, getting nowhere fast🤔

Thanks for raising such good questions ... you are clealy on the right path! To think ever more clearly helps to come up with ever better questions - lol

You can try thinking of ways to ask yourself questions like 'How honest am I with myself?' or 'Am I just making excuses, if so, why?' ... start talking to your inner student like it was a real friend, and see what answers you'll get ... it's up to you to explore what's hiden in your mind if you are curious and motivated to find things which can take you to new hights of mental health and wellbeing ....

Let me know if you have questions or things are not clear enough to follow the basic ideas - :)

I have been trying to do what you have suggested. No excuses, But one of our 7cup therapists said to me that even my normal thinking was messed up. That stuck hard in me because I thought my thinking was ok. After doing much research, I have found that CPTSD over the long term causes the brain to not form correctly learning life skills, so now I am not sure of what is faulty or real when I try to journal and ask myself these open-ended questions searching for answers. Still trying to understand what the block is. These are not excuses but real facts. Even mindfulness is something that I am unable to do, yey I keep trying to find the needle in the heystack. I don't know if I am the only one that struggles with this maze or not, but it is a real problem. I know that some of my questions are not some that we may be able to answer but it is a questions that are relevant.

I really appreciate your reply and suggestions. I will continue to keep examining myself looking for the answers. Looking for the authentic me.❤️

Thanks for your reply. You sound very clear and coherent to me in your thinking.

I am open and honest with you, I fee some people get attched to their condition, being sorry for themselves or having other obsticles to over come before they find a way out and free themselves from limiting their mental thrength ... you don't sound to me like your own limitation that way. I don't even feel there is that much wrong with you to stop you from having a good life being happy most days ... :)

Thanks so much for your comments!

You said it, and it's a great way to put it: 'a work in progress' - just underline the word 'progress' :)

We all know, non of the clowns around are perfect - least of all the ones who feed us mind pollution every day thinking they have the devine right to manipulate the crazy world we live in ... lol
