Being Laid Off for No Reason or Bad Reason

Hello,

I never post things like this on the internet, but given what has happened to me recently I figure that maybe there are people out there who can relate to this.

Last fall I was laid off from my job as an accountant for no reason. I just showed up to work one day and there was a woman from HR waiting in the main lobby with my firing paperwork. They even gave me a severence letter. The letter didn't state any reason for why I was being laid off though.

Fast forward a few months andi found another job as an accountant for a much smaller company. This time I was working as a temp, with the possibility to become a permanent employee in the future. Three days into the job I got a call from the recruiting agency I was working through. The called me right after I was done working for my third day, and they said the company wanted to endmy employment effective immediately, the reason being that I was "dismissive and not following direction". This is not true though, and I feel like the company just made this narrative up because someone didn't like me. In reality I a very hard worker and Ipay very close attention to detail when learning a new job.

I'm at a very low point in life. Still living with my dad at 30, and no money saved because of these firings. I just feel like nothing is going right in life and I'm losing hope that things will ever turn around. I always show up to work with positive working attitude, yet for some reason that is not enough for some people. It's like if your not constantly stroking the egos of everyone around, you are a problem. Has the world always been like this? Where just being good at your job ad a good person is not enough? People demand more from you at all times, and if your not literally giving them your soul, your not doing enough for them?

Thank you for reading this

It is frustrating and of course you feel perhaps angry in not knowing what is happening..... in the temp thing ask the agency for the real not sugar coated reason..... EVEN if you disagree with what was said....it is hard to come into a place while still feeling disappointed and unhappy about losing last job

i had difficulty in a work situation once  and I stayed angry and did not see until years later that in that time frame and my mental mood i was NOT as nice and helpful as I saw myself either.    i simply did not care and was short with some people.... or seemed fake when i was putting a smile on for others.

Thank you for the response. I think you are absolutely right about not staying outwardly upset. In then I still have to stay positive when communicating with others at work in my next job.

Hello @Jeremy12345

Sorry to hear that happened.

I'm in your shoes.

In my previous workplace I was treated less well than my other colleagues in the same position. Management just ignored my point of view when I pointed it out. Eventually I fell sick. The organisation did not wait for my recovery and they just fired me.

It's been a hard time for me to digest all of that. Very difficult to understand they prefer to get rid of a person rather than make everyone feel okay at their workplace. (I still don't get it and think never will).

For what my penny is worth I think you're better out of those awful places.

I really hope you find somewhere nice to work.

Also it's been some time since you posted, so it'd be nice to have an update to know how you're doing.

Hope all is well. 💜
