Bipolar ll

Hi there. I have a bipolar II diagnosis that I’m not sure I agree with because through my young and adult life I’ve had major depressive episodes but no even clear Hypnomanic episodes, or maybe I’m in denial. I always just thought I was impulsive and excitable. So it leaves me feeling a little confused...

Hello! Hopefully you get some more replies. How do you feel about this now?

I have found it can take time to adjust to a diagnosis, as it can go against what we thought we new about our self (and those thoughts can be great defense mechanisms - as you said, in denial, - and we never saw how things really were before, so it is a huge shock).

But also, diagnoses are often wrong! If it were me I would do a lot of reading about the diagnosis, and join some support groups for bipolar, and really try to understand and also talk through what you said here with your therapist/psychiatrist, or even get a second opinion. Symptoms can be similar and often symptoms from underlying CPTSD or similar can add to the confusion.
