College is so hard when you have social anxiety. I just hate anyone at all looking at me, even if it's just walking into a classroom. I want to be invisible all the time. I know for a fact I look miserable because I'm so uncomfortable and unhappy being around people I don't know. I make others uncomfortable with my weird facial expressions and off putting demeanour and the sad thing is i'd really like to make friends because i don't have any. What do you do when you're in a big college in a social environment 24/7 and you hate it. How can i make it more tolerable? I can't even sit in a lecture and concentrate because i'm worried about how i'm being perceived and whether i look angry or weird to others.

@Nairhair95 Hey! College can definitely feel overwhelming by the sheer vastness of how many people are constanstly around you. For me when I'm stuck in large groups of people I remind myself to make eye contact and smile (I have RBF and have been told I often come off as stuck up or overly serious upon first impression if I'm not smiling). I also try to initiate 1 on 1 conversations as I personally do better talking with a single person rather than juggling group dynamics. For breaking the ice with people I will ask them something about them as people usually enjoy talking about themselves. So I'll say something like, "hey, your shoes (phone case, headphones, backpack, background on laptop...ect) are awesome, where did you get them?" Remember you have strenghts, and you're worthy of having friends and being liked by others. Don't sell yourself short :)

College is definitely really hard but if you haven't already, take a look around for some clubs. They have them for EVERYTHING. And a common interest makes everyone easier to talk to. Maybe once you have a familiar face in a few places everything won't be so scary.
