the joys of agoraphobia and the dentist

KindGrace28 February 10th, 2017

I have a really irrational fear of the dentist, I have to take a sedative before I go otherwise I can't even get out the door. I have really bad problems with my teeth and have been having chronic toothache for nearly 2 months but I have been so scared to go to the dentist I have waited until I look like a chipmunk before realising I really need to make an appointment, and I didn't even make the phone call my fiance did as I was scared they wouldn't see me as I haven't been in four months in though the dentist tells me every time I go I need to start coming for regular treatment or I am going to lose all my teeth :( I am devastated today because the tooth I have to get pulled is my front tooth and get married in 8 weeks so it is probably going to ruin my wedding photos, and for some strange reason this is why I have also been avoiding the dentist I was scared of losing my front teeth, but now I have left it too late and I am so angry and upset at myself. Does anyone else have a fear of the dentist?

dont have a fear of the dentist per se but have been in a position where a tooth became absecessed, impacted, something unpleasant. (wisdom tooth growing in wrong). the pain became unbearable in spurts and when it finally was unremitting i had to have surgery because i waited too long to get it looked at. i have agoraphobia as well.

good news is they knocked me out because it was surgery.

i'm sorry things got to this point for you. please dont beat yourself up and try not to stress as much as you can. can they get you a fake tooth or veneer of some kind so it appears there is still a tooth there?

at any rate, please count yourself blessed -- you have a fiance that cares for you. {its not all bad, right? :) }

best wishes getting through this - you can do it!

thanks Jane I didn't get the tooth taken out I got the beginning of a root canal treatment done it was so painful but I was able to stay calm and my tooth feels a lot better today. Thank you for your advice if you would like to connect to talk about agoraphobia it would be lovely to have someone to talk too

@KindGrace28

oh good! That's the best that they could save the tooth!!

I would be interested in starting a thread where people that have agoraphobia can talk. Be neat if we could find others too, ya know?

using chat is a difficult way to speak openly but when you don't get out I think it's a start, don't you?

also, I tried so hard to flag my post because I thought I shouldn't have said anything at all. So ty so much for replying and glad you're smile is intact!! 👍 😀
