Help with aftermath of a caffeine induced anxiety attack

Yesterday around 4 pm I had an anxiety attack after drinking half of a cappuccino. My anxiety attack lasted from 4pm until 2am when I finally fell asleep. My initial symptoms have stopped but I’m still feeling the effects of it; my head is lightly throbbing, my body is tingly and sore, my eyes are having a little trouble focusing, and I feel completely drained and depleted. I’ve had anxiety attacks before but never this bad. I have an appointment with my doctor later today but I would like advice on how to cope with the aftermath of an anxiety attack. Thanks in advance!

@mysticalarch hope you are feeling better now. Usually deep breathing helps to calm you down plus a strong awareness that the anxiety attack is not a disease but just a reaction helps you not to overdose on fear. Some people often Drink some fluid like water, barley water or coconut water to flush out the caffeine. This is a link to a self help guide about Anxiety.

That sucks. I am so sorry for this. I had this caffeine-induced attack many times. Maybe drink a lot of water, try to reduce your caffeine intake or try taking it in the morning with some food or bread, watch some funny videos, some grounding activities helps, meditation, or walking around helps.

Hopefully, this is helpful

@mysticalarch hope you are feeling better. How did your doctors appointment go? I had a similar attack this weekend but it was not as long

thank you very much! i am feeling much better but i’m definitely still adjusting. the doctor’s appointment went well. i was prescribed an antidepressant for short term use (3-6 months) as i recover and get back on track. everything was so terrible for me at the time. i had too much stress (school, relationships, etc.) and it caused the panic attack which then was carried out by the caffeine. so it technically was a traumatic experience for my body and it caused a chemical imbalance. i’m in therapy to learn stress and anxiety coping mechanisms. the first week was the absolute worst for me. i felt horrible. i’m currently taking a break from school and removing other stressors. i feel way more like myself now but i am just learning how to adjust to life changes.

I am so sorry. Deep breathing, some grounding exercises, and lemon water. I have been there. :(
