Having SA at Work

bunny64 January 8th, 2017

Hello, I thought this would be an interesting topic to bring up. I feel like I get discriminated agaisnt because of my social anixety. Many people don't seem to realize that I can't help it. Finding a job that doesn't require an outgoing personality can be hard. I got told at my last job interview that I "need help" if I can't talk to people and he refused to hire me. This job was supposed to be about animal care. No where in the job discription did it say I needed to have good social skills.

Sorry you're struggling with this. I've been through that too. One manager at one job I had actually came up to me and told me she was going to pair me up with another coworker to teach me how to speak up like everyone else, so I walked out of the job and never went back. It's not easy when you struggle socially finding an income source that fits your needs. For me, I had to go into the mental health feild where my coworkers also struggle with anxiety, depression, and more, just so I could feel a little bit freer being who I am. I don't think it was right for any of the five other jobs I tried to try and force me to just suddenly drop my anxieties and social issues because they commanded it. It's a weird world out there, I'll say.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having a hard time. Don't give up though. Sometimes it takes a lot of searching to find a place that works with your personality. Even if it's just coming across a group of people that know what you're going through. I'm 3 months deep into my new job doing retail management, and honestly...the people I work with are everything. Most of us there suffer from some sort of mental ailment, so we all are able to relate on it. It took a lot searching to find somewhere like that, and I hope it sticks out for awhile. Please don't lose hope! Something will happen!
