Crowded Elevators
I have chronic pain troubles that have gotten increasingly worse this year, and I've also been going to college full time again. I spend a lot of my week trying to rush to get to my classes on time, or the library, ect - but I loathe crowded elevators so much. Even half full ones, sometimes. Being in such close proximity to a lot of people puts me on edge. In the past this wasn't too bad, because I would just take the stairs and run. But I have to take elevators now due to my health, so it's on my mind a bit more. It's such a weird thing to hyperfocus on, I guess.
Any tips on politely rejecting the crowded elevator or tips on staying calm in one?
@ohtotoro
Remembering to breath should help somewhat. Someone told me pinching fleshy bit between my thumb and first finger on either hand can help to release certain soothing chemistry in the brain somehow (not sure how much of that is placebo related). I listen to mindfulness tracks on 7cups to decrease overall anxiety and some of the tips given in those are useful to remember any time of day wherever you happen to be.
@ohtotoro you should always bring an umbrella on public transit, totoro :O
maybe having something to hold onto, even if it's just thoughts, will help you be okay with the tiny people that are probably good enough inside for people. :3 <3'
but more importantly, you already do it every day, huh? ^____^! and it's hard and it's scary but you do it. so that's something to be proud of. and it might as well be riding the catbus, and i know you wna ride the catbus even tho it'd be scaries so :3
*nods* i think pretend yr just waitin for the catbus with little humans, it is.
For me, if I do not want to take the elevator, I just simply reject them. I don't think anyone will think twice about why you're rejecting it, since people have their own thing to worry about. So I say just do it! :)
