Metoprolol withdrawal?

Hello again,
When I was ill a few weeks ago, my pcp put me on 50 mg metoprolol then upped it to 100 because my blood pressure was high and I had heart palpitations. She sent me to a cardiologist, who said my condition didn't call for that high a dose and he reduced it to 25 mg once daily. Well, I found the side effects of fatigue, shakiness and dizziness to be intolerable so I asked to wean off metoprolol. They told me to take half pill every day for 3 days then every other day for 3 days. I'm in the middle of the last part but find I'm experiencing more of the shakiness and heart palpitations. This includes some anxiety. Has anyone else been through this? I used to take 20-40 mg propranolol up to 3x a day for anxiety and never had a problem with it but this metoprolol has been rough!

It can be frustrating when medications don't seem to work with your body the way you expect them to, especially when they leave you feeling so off-balance. It’s good that you’re in touch with your doctors, and the process of tapering off is usually a step toward getting back to feeling like yourself again. The shakiness, palpitations, and anxiety you’re describing sound really uncomfortable, but it could be your body adjusting to the lower dose or the process of weaning off the medication. I’d recommend reaching out to your doctor again about the symptoms you're experiencing, especially since you’ve been through a lot with the dose adjustments.
