I need help to stop my porn/fap addiction. Could anyone please help me with steps to take or anything that would help me? I need to take back control of my life

I can really relate to how unmanageable life gets when an addiction is running the course and making all my decisions.

I had caring people try to help me, but all their efforts meant nothing until I myself was in a place where I truly believed and I needed help and I was the one who went out and looked for it.

Things I did included joining a 12 Step group (one which I actually still attend today, on a weekly basis, even more than 3 years later), as well as seeking professional assistance from a therapist.

I couldn't just see any therapist; I needed one who was CSAT (Certified Sex Addiction Therapist), familiar with the Patrick Carnes work and system. A lot of that rolls around emotional regulation as a means to cope and to return to a state of mindfulness (which really means being able to choose, rather than the addiction already completing the choice).

I found that I needed some education (or knowledge, if you will) so I could better understand/know what it is that I am facing.

The resource I found the most helpful was a website called rowboatandmarbles.

Hi, I am really sorry you are dealing with this.. I am too..but the good news is that I actually think accepting the problem and deciding to face it head on is probably the hardest step.. which you have clearly take - so CONGRATULATIONS, draw some strength from that laugh!

I don't have answers.. I wish I did, because I need them too.

I did find this site interesting and helpful though. It explains the impact on the brain, and importantly how the brain will recalibrate once you stop overdosing it with dopamine. Link: https://www.bustle.com/articles/153055-heres-what-porn-addiction-does-to-your-brain-and-how-to-recover

Hope it helps.. Dan.
