Looking for groups for adult children of alcoholics that AREN'T Al-Anon

AmyPond4457 June 26th, 2019

I need the support, but my family was highly emotionally abusive about religion, and 7 of the 12 steps mention God. Is there something similar (online meetings, discord, chatrooms)?

@AmyPond4457 I feel you. It is often hard to find anything that isn't 12 step. When I was going to meetings, I used to go to Secular Organization for Sobriety. I don't know if they have any in-person meetings that are like Al-Anon, and unfortunately it looks like their online group for friends and family is pretty dead these days.

It looks like SMART has a group for family and friends of alcoholics. They have in-person meetings, an online forum, and a discord chat room. I haven't used them, but I have heard SMART is good. The SOS people really liked them.
