I have drank almost everyday for so long! I have stopped, and know I can stop but I always end up back in the same place. I have attended my 1st AA meeting but honestly don't feel like I belong. I need to understand the reasons behind my drinking to conquer it l, not listen to other people's story's of hitting rock bottom. Can anybody help me?

Most of the time addiction stems from trauma related experiences, other times it can be because of some other personal hangup, like work, family friends or even environments we live in or in the past grow up in....

But to narrow it down it's a stress response. You're responding to the stressors in your life of some sort by drinking. So drinking would be your coping mechanism...

And...you're drinking because you're trying to soothe the pain of something that happened in your life.

So...in most cases it's to soothe the emotions that surface from whatever happened in your life.

That's a general idea.

Your can use this as a guideline to reflect about what it could be and from there work on replacing it with healthier habits.
