Struggling to go through the holiday days as an addict

kindTurtle1458 December 28th, 2018

I have been sober for a 17 years, which it does not meanthat I am a strong person to tolerateany kind of holiday day when too many people party during the holiday. I tend to stay to myself a little more during holiday days, which it is hard for non addict people understand if Ishare anything of struggle as an addict to them. So I tend to use the cope system by going to the gyma few times a week, talk to one or two mutual friends who can understand and support, and sigh. I tend to hate the holiday daydeeply since Iam an addict.

@kindTurtle1458 Hi Turtle, welcome again to addiction support! I moved your forum thread to the appropriate area just to let you know.

I am so proud of your efforts to stay sober especially when you are in a very tempting environment! You show great self awareness. You have great coping strategies like working out and talking to friends who understand and support you. I can definitely understand how difficult the hoidays can be for an addict, so kudos to you for staying strong and motivated.

Thanks for sharing, and best wishes! Let us know if you have any questions or concerns. :)

@lovelyWhisper66

Sorry for posting to wrong page. I'd be ensured it is right thread before I post to it next time. Thank you for replying back. It is challenging to tolerance that previous holiday days recently. Glad I gave myself a best to go through these hard days. Oh man, I went to the church to cope through hard days by being with some church members, and see some church group who sings during the church session. It was overwhelming to acknowledge that they all give a support and company among each other, which it helped me to feel as a human being like other without feeling difference from them. I thank you kindly for replying back, LovelyWhisper66
