May 29th - Neighbour Day

QuickJazz May 29th, 2015

"Neighbours are important because good relationships with others can and does change communities. Social connection also makes us feel better as it helps prevent loneliness, isolation and depression.". Neighbour Day is "the opportunity to reconnect with the values of solidarity, brotherhood and friendship that should be at the forefront of neighbourly relations.". [Source 1 and 2].

We may not be a neighbourhood in the sense that we can have a street party, etc. However, I nonetheless wanted to take this day to talk a little about the 7 Cups neighbourhood.

[Listener version of this post here].

Firstly, I think itd be great to look at whos in the 7 Cups community! So, we have...

Members: Users with a registered member account that seek support from listeners. Marked with an 'M'.

Teen members: those aged between 13 - 17
Adult members: those aged 18+

Guests: Users without a registered member account that seek support from listeners. Marked with an 'G'.

Listeners: Users with a registered listener account that provide support to members and guests. Marked with an 'L'.

Adult Listeners: are and listen to those aged 18+
Teen Listeners: are between the ages of 16 -17
Adult Teen Listeners: are 18+ and have successfully applied here to also listen to teens

So now we know whos around, perhaps we should look at the spaces in which we can find each other!

1-on-1 chats: Private exchanges where listeners can speak to guests or members upon responding to their general and personal requests.

The Support Forum: A discussion area containing many sections in which listeners and members can post, read and discuss a variety of topics.

Group Chat Support: A place where users can interact with each other, as well as seek and provide support, in a chat room format. These are based on various topics for members who seek group support from other members and guests, in addition to listeners.

→ These group support rooms include the Community Room, Share Your Story, Loneliness Support, Anxiety Support, Depression Support and LGBTQ+ Support rooms for the 18+, and the Community Room and Teen Support for the under 18s.

What kind of listeners might you want to look out for?

Verified Listeners: Listeners who have gone through the mock chat process or passed a mentor evaluation. [Find them here].

Group Moderators: A listener who has taken and passed the group moderator test. Has the ability to moderate and monitor the group support rooms.

Group Support Teams: A team of listeners work to create a sense of community within each support topic category, by organising discussions and events in the group chat rooms. Current teams are Anxiety Support Team, Depression Support Team, Loneliness Support Team and the LGBTQ+Support Team.

Forum Team: A team of listeners who support members within the forums, with the ability to concentrate their efforts within specific parts of the forums.

Finally, how can members and guests make the best of their experiences on here?

Happy Neighbour Day everyone! Perhaps you would like to take this day to explore various parts of the website, to interact with those who make up our community or 'neighbourhood'. You may even want to share things to help or just brighten another person's day too.

Whether it be music, inspiring quotes, internet inspirations, recipes or... just about anything!

However you choose to spend the day, I hope you all have a great one!
