gender identity, biological sex & gender expression

Here with a post to talk about gender identity, biological sex, gender expression and the term: transgender *~*

Biological sex: is referring to the biological aspects of an individual as determined by their anatomy, which is produced by their chromosomes, hormones and sexual body types Which is assigned at birth, and most of the times wrongly referred to as “gender”
biological sex is not a male or female binary; but a line, male and female are on two ends of which; anyone on this line between the two ends or out of this line is referred to as "intersex", intersex term is referring to people who are born with genetic, hormonal or physical sex characteristics that are not typically 'male' or 'female'
Gender identity: gender identity is a personal, internal perception of oneself; it is their sense of being a woman, a man, both, neither, or anywhere along the gender spectrum. And so the gender category someone identifies with may or may not match the sex they were assigned at birth
again gender is not a binary of man or woman but instead a line on the two end of which sit woman and man identities, non-binary is used as an umbrella term to talk about these varying gender identities that are anywhere on this line between the two, or completely out of that line in the gender spectrum
Gender expression: is how a person publicly presents their gender. This can include behavior and outward appearance such as dress, hair, make-up, body language and voice. A person’s chosen name and pronoun are also common ways of expressing gender. These categories rely on cultural beliefs about person's behavior, mannerisms, interests, and appearance that are associated with a particular gender by society
~ while discussing gender expression keep in mind that categories and associated looks and behaviors are largly defined by stereotypes about gender and there is no one way to "look" like a given gender, while the gender expression as a context can be helpful for one to express themselves, talk themselves and get people to easier and better understand them, chosen names and preferred pronouns can help with sense of belonging and identity, and dressing, make up and etc. can help one get comfortable with their body it is never acceptable to assume one's identity or question the reality of how they identify by their looks or even pronouns
note that~ A person can have any gender expression regardless of their biological sex and even gender identity, while most people have a gender expression matching their gender identity, many have different choices and that’s completely okay, an example of this is drag queens and drag kings
transgender/cisgender: Anyone with a gender identity that fits in with their biological sex can be referred to as cisgender while anyone whose gender identity is different from the sex assigned at birth, falls under the transgender umbrella
a point to remember~ With this definition, all non-binary people can fall under transgender umbrella, while this is a technically true view, many non binary people may not feel comfortable with the label, because of the long history of streotipycal thinking that: ( transgender people are people with "opposite" sex and gender identities and are willing to transition)
remember that labels are not red lines, as a non-binary person you are the only one to consider if you view yourself as transgender and feel comfy with the term or not
Remember that being transgender is not a gender identity by itself, a transgender person can have any gender identity and also can have any sexulity (sexual orientation)
Not every transgender will choose to go thru transition operations, use hormones blockers, binders and etc. they may choose to do all, some or none of these things based on what feels comfy, needed or the time for
Non-binary identities:
Let’s take a tour on some of the non-binary gender identity terms!
Before starting tho, If you are questioning your gender identity, you probably are going thru an exhausting, frustrating, confusing or full of overthinking, tough time, on a first note~ it’ okay to slow down, take it on your own pace, you have time and you do not need to find a label right now or ever as long as you don’t feel comfy with one, just being you is okay

• Nonbinary: The umbrella term covering all gender identities outside the gender binary. Individuals can and do identify with nonbinary as their specific identity. Also referred to as nb or enby
• Agender: Having no specific gender identity or having a gender identity that is neutral or undefined. Sometimes used interchangeably with genderless and neutrois.
• Bigender: Having two distinct gender identities, either simultaneously or alternatively.
• Genderfluid: Moving between two or more gender identities.
• Genderqueer: A catch-all term for individuals with nonbinary gender identities. Some people identify with it as their main identity.

non-binary and transgender flags: where did they first come from??
The four horizontal stripes of the colors- yellow, white, purple, and black are symbolic for Non-Binary peoples' experience The non-binary pride flag was created in 2014 by Kye Rowan. Yellow represents people whose gender exists outside the binary, purple represents those whose gender is a mixture of – or between – male and female, black represents people who have no gender, and white represents those who embrace many or all genders.

The Trans flag was created by an American Trans women Monica Helms in 1999 and was first flown at the Phoenix, Arizona pride in 2000. The three colours represent baby blue (boys) baby pink (girls) and white for those who are transitioning, intersex or identify with a nonbinary gender.
