Mod Emergency Form Info

December 7th, 2018

Hey Everyone!
Lately there has been a bit of confusion about the mod emergency form, what it is and what we use it for. Below is some information I hope you find helpful!

What is it?
The mod emergency form is a form members and listeners can use to alert moderators in the event of a situation in the room that requires moderation.

Why do we have it?
All of our moderators are volunteers and cannot be available 24/7. We therefore have this form that can be used to alert moderators who may be around and able to jump in and help out.

How do we find it?
The form is located in the Chatroom Rules at the bottom of the chat window when in any of our Group Support rooms.

When do we use it?
There is a spammer in the chat room.

There is someone trolling in the chat room.

There is an abusive person in the chat room.

There is an extremely triggering person in the chat room.

There is a suicidal person in the chat room.

There is a participant who is the wrong age.

When is it not helpful to make a request and what can we do instead?
I am unhappy about a mods actions - The Mod review form also located in the chatroom rules can be used for this purpose.

A mod muted me for no reason - The Mod review form also located in the chatroom rules can be used for this purpose.

Someone in the room needs support - Encourage the room by supporting the member, let them know they can also browse for a listener.

Things we should think about before using it:
Why am I making the request?

Is anyone in the chatroom in danger?

Is the room unsupportive?

What to do if a mod doesnt respond:
As we have mentioned before our moderators are all volunteers. Sometimes you might find yourself in a situation where a mod is not able to respond to your request. There are ways you could be helpful though!

Dont engage in conflict - Engaging in the situation may only add fuel to the fire which is not what we want.

Remind people about their personal mute buttons - This could get backlash so you may want to be careful how you say it but a general statement reminding everyone that they have the option to mute someone who is upsetting or triggering them can go a long way. Especially for people who may be new to the community and may not know about this feature.

Change the topic in the room - Supporting someone coming in, sharing about your day, telling a joke. Literally anything that takes some of the attention away from the need for the mod would help.

If youre a listener, hop into LSR (adults) or TL (teens) and see if there is a mod available - Just send a polite message asking if there is a mod for a certain room available. If there isnt, please be understanding. Sometimes people who are in LSR/TL may be mods however they may be unable to go in and we need to respect that.

If there is someone in particular causing harm or in danger please report them. You can do this by using the ignore/report option under their name or email community@7cups.com. If you can include screenshots it is always helpful.

Feel free to ask any questions you may still have!

@Lorraine234 What do you definite like "trolling" specifically? Since everyone has different definition of it, it keeps very unclear about when calling a mod.
Is that when someone is hurtful? Bring controversal or conflictual topics? Is sarcastic toward those seeking support? confront everyone "for fun"? Complaint about the site, listeners and mods?
