Turner Syndrome With @Animeweebu123
Turner syndrome is a genetic disorder that affects only females as a result of one of the X chromosomes partially or completely missing. Turner syndrome causes medical and developmental problems, and the main symptom of turner syndrome is a short stature.
Today we'll be hearing from @Animeweebu123 on their experience with Turner Syndrome.
Question: What is it like living with Turner Syndrome?
It's tough. Not many people know about it because it's so uncommon. The most notable thing is height which people judge me for. I will always have to use a step stool for high up items.
Question: What do most people not know or misunderstand about Turner Syndrome?
It's not just the height that's affected. Hearing and sight are also common issues as well as learning difficulties.
Question: Was it a difficult process getting a diagnosis for Turner Syndrome?
It was extremely difficult. Around fourth grade my mom fought to get me into a specialist because she knew something was wrong. They did a blood test and found the condition.
Question: What are the challenges of living with Turner Syndrome?
Height is always gonna be an issue. I will probably never be able to reach the top shelves. I will also always be mistaken for younger than I am. I have always been bullied because of my height, so much so I started online school.
Question: How would you explain Turner Syndrome to a person who has never heard about it?
Turner syndrome is a genetic disorder that affects one of the two X chromosomes causing it to be missing or partially there.
Question: How would you rather not prefer people to react when you say you have Turner Syndrome?
There's nothing really that I don't like people saying besides calling me a midget or short.
Question: Do you have any hobbies/passions. What do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy watching anime, playing video games, and hanging out with friends.
Question: Do you think there is sufficient medical research and treatments to support those with Turner Syndrome?
No there's not much research being done. Medical treatments include shots to help individuals reach an average height and hormone therapy.
Question: Would you say there is enough representation of people with Turner Syndrome in the media?
No there is very little to none unless you look for videos on the subject.
Question: Is there anything you would like to include?
I believe it's important for people to understand people may look different but they are still just like everyone else. Being short just means I might need help reaching things but other than that my life is completely normal.
Thank you Animeweebu123, we certainly have a better understanding of Turner Syndrome due to your insightful answers💙

@Animeweebu123
Thank you for sharing your story! I won't pretend what you are going through because I can't make myself shorter to put myself in your shoes, however, I have a younger sibling who is shorter than most her age. I watch her struggle to reach a top shelf and the frustration she has. Knowing that I can only imagine the frustration you feel with height but also hearing, etc.
I know Turner Syndrome can't be cured unfortunately, but are there ways to manage the "symptoms"? You don't have to share specifics; I was just curious because I have uncurable conditions and instead have to treat each symptom individually so I was curious if it was the same with Turner Syndrome.
@wonderfulRainbow817 Yea I currently see several doctors to help with the issues caused by the condition
@Animeweebu123
Ah ok. Thanks for sharing! I hope the doctors help you find some relief.
