World Down Syndrome Day Masterpost (March 21st)

Hello everyone! This week is dedicated to the celebration of World Down Syndrome Day.

There will be various forum discussions, ice-breakers and group support discussions hosted by the Disability Support Community this week.

Some interesting facts about Down Syndrome

• Down Syndrome is the most common chromosomal condition in people

• It was named after Dr. John Langdon Down who was the first to characterize it

• Down Syndrome occurs in approximately 1 out of 700 births.

• There are three types of down syndrome.

• In 1983 the life expectancy for down syndrome was 25 years. Today, it’s 60.
