Hi Hero,

It sounds like you do not have much support on your side of the screen. It can be difficult for someone with hearing loss because things that you hear is not always crisp and can become noisy. It is also a frustrating experience and the hearing loss should be acknowledged by others. 7 cups is a great start to share your situation. I am a member with a fluctuating hearing loss. I am here to support you. smiley

Thank you so much for your support. It was difficult being told I'd gradually lose all hearing in both ears. My left is worst than my right. What was even worse was when I told my younger child my daughter who was a teen at the time(19) I told her what I was told she literally laughed. It hurt so very deeply. Then being told time & time again either I'm not listening, I'm not paying attention or I hear what I want to by people can get very annoying and aggravating. It brings out much anger.

Do you use hearing aids or any other assistive listening technology eternalHero77? Just curious

Hearing is not "cut and dried," is it? People think you either hear or you don't. Wrong. Often I hear but can't discern what was said, until my brain sometimes can put the pieces together. I live on assumptions. I have bilateral loss and wear 2 hearing aids, but that doesn't make my hearing perfect at all. I still miss so much, and these assumptions have caused misunderstandings and confusion. I almost always disclose my loss, but I still hear so little that if I constantly made people repeat themselves, they get frustrated with me and give up. Then I'm left out in the cold. So I assume a bit and try to make sense of things. It causes a delay while I sit there with a blank face and I imagine people think I'm not very smart, but it's the only way I can continue to communicate. My audiologist says he can't get the hearing aids to work any better than that - he says I should have better comprehension than I do. And good luck trying to find an audiologist who will administer a hearing assessment while you're wearing the new hearing aids - they never will. I believe it's because I just plunked down 4 to 7K and they want to believe I will be satisfied with the result.
