How Long It Can Take To Recover From A Breakup, According To Research
“It's no secret that losing a relationship is hard, but one
aspect of breakups that's often left unconsidered is how they affect our
sense of control, both internal and external. In a new study published in
the journal PLOS ONE, researchers wanted to know how losing a partner
affects that sense of control—and they actually found some interesting,
hopeful results.
Based on the findings, those who separated from their partner showed a drop in perceived control the first year after separating—but after that, their sense of control slowly started to creep back up. The researchers attribute this to a form of "stress-related growth."
This is hopeful news for anyone who's going through a breakup. After all, it makes sense that losing a relationship could make one feel like their life is out of their control—not only do you lose the person in question, but you lose a part of yourself as well. But over time, as you learn to live without that person, you regain the sense of autonomy you seemingly lost.”

✨Discussion: According to findings on stress-related growth, people may learn from their negative experiences and develop inner strength and maturity after ending relationships. The truth is that ending a relationship is never simple. The good news is that, despite the fact that it could take some time, people do have a remarkable capacity to recover from loss, reclaim a sense of control, and become stronger as a result.
✨Reflection: How long does it typically take you to recover from a breakup?

Thank you so much for this post @innateJoy9602, it's common for people to be very hard on themselves for how long it takes to just "get over it". There is no right or wrong duration when it comes to personal healing, especially in a healthy and thorough way.
✨Reflection: How long does it typically take you to recover from a breakup?
- From what I've observed about myself, I think it takes a year. But within that year I'm not looking for the next partner, the year is spent really reconnecting with myself and purging everything connected to the negative toll of the breakup: Do that I gain clarity on the positives of the breakup. For me, I can't move on properly with life in general if I still can only see the negatives of the breakup instead of the Positivity of wisdom and lessons.
So that I gain clarity** darn typo lol.
@innateJoy9602 It is being said that around 6 months is the normal time. It's a form of grief so it can take up to 2 years in a few cases. In my personal opinion, as a psych student, this is one of the top things we should not label. Every personality and relationship is different and it can take as much as one feels, no matter how long this is. Love is love and in some cases people never get to really overcome a break up and that's ok! What's important is that they cope with it and keep up with their lives. Only when this becomes disturbing and stops them from being productive should it be a concern. Thanks for the post!
@calmDew1576 I agree with you Dew.
In some cases it can be longer then 2 years.
I hope this helps.

@innateJoy9602 Your very welcomed.
Thanks for taking the time to write this.
The first time it took me sth like 4 years to get on. But it wasn't actually a breakup, it was more than a time we spent apart which resulted in separation as there was no prospect for us to get together again.
In my current relationship, just the thought of breaking up ruins my mental health and seems intolerable.

Everyone’s different of course<3
I’m sorry the thought of breaking up in your current relationship is tough on you.
Break-ups are hard. I’m sure your current relationship is fine<3
Thanks for reading. Sending hugs<3

@innateJoy9602
Not so fine I'm afraid. We have broken up a few times but then got together again. I don't want to recall all the pain involved at that time. Moreover, the relationship is never the same as time passes by and these things happen, breaking up and reuniting.
@imaginativePlane7983
