Hello, Everyone! Hope you are doing great.

Welcome to the Day 3 of the "Making Peace with Stress" Event.

Today, no one holds the luxury of saying that they lead a truly stress-free life. We look around ourselves and we find infinite intangibles that we cannot control and thus they worry us. I agree that there are countless reasons to be stressed but there are many more to not get stressed. The main reason being, stressing about something won’t change anything except degrading your health.

"Worry is like a rocking chair: it gives you something to do but never gets you anywhere."

Eliminating stress completely from our lives is not an impossible situation to reach. We just need to put some thought and sincere efforts to achieve it. Instead of keeping the stress bottled up, we need to channel it in productive ways.

Here are some factors to relieve or reduce stress-

Activities: Endorphins are chemicals that improve our mood and act as natural painkillers. They are released by our body when we perform various activities like exercising, yoga, walking, jogging, dancing, rock climbing, running, etc. These activities that involve repetitive movements of large muscle groups can particularly stress relieving. Because they lower our body’s stress hormones such as Cortisol, in the long run.

Laughing: It is difficult to feel stressed when we are laughing. So, laugh with friends or while watching friends. Use comedy movies, tv shows, etc. to distract yourself. This will make you forget about the situation you were stressed about and relieve your stress response and tension by relaxing your muscles. Laughing also improves our mood and immune system in the long term.

Take control: Accept that you cannot control everything and take control of the things you can. Say 'No' to the situations that lead to stress. Be selective of the situations you put yourself in. Taking control of your actions will help you reduce your stress levels.

One way I try to reduce stress is pay more attention to my needs and address it, rather than ignore it which causes stress to build up.

Question: What methods would you use to relieve or reduce your stress?

I love laughing for no reason and it often helps me in feeling lighter. I also like walking - I walk on my terrace these days when it's evening, the sky looks so pretty! I don't often do this - but talking it out with a trusted friend puts me at ease like nothing else :)
