How do you self care?
When we go through hard times, we need self care in order to feel supported. Things such as friends to listen to us and practicing mindfulness can help support us through our challenging times.
- How do you feel best supported in hard times and how effective is it?

Well friend. I guess I have my support from my religion. Like yesterday when I had very little energy (I suffer from ME/CFS - lack of energy). So I have to rest.

I think I feel most supported when I have support from my mom and my boyfriend and my close friends. My mom knows how to support me best out of everyone. I think ways I could feel more supported are trying to rationalize my thoughts. Sometimes when I am struggling, my thoughts can become unrealistic because I am not in the best mindset. It's important to remember that those feelings and thoughts are temporary.
@fruityPond7887 I am glad you have people that support you. That is wonderful.
I too like to have positive self talk when my mind starts seeing things with dark glasses. I have to keep focusing on the fact the glass is half full. I have spent too much time focusing on the half empty part.
@soulsings Thank you so much! I totally agree that we spend a lot of time looking at the negative side of things, but it's hard not to! Our society can be so negative sometimes so I think it's really important to practice gratitude! It can help shift our perspective when we may be feeling down. Thanks for this post!!
@fruityPond7887 the other reason we spend a lot of time on the negative is our brain is hard wired that way. In order to survive in primative society and even before, focusing on what is wonderful could make you a meal for some other animal. Focusing on negative threats can keep you alive.
So now we do not need to worry about lions attacking us, so we need to reprogram ourselves to have the conscious ability to focus on what is going well to maintain our mental health and stability.
@soulsings That's very true!! Thanks for pointing that out!

- How do you feel best supported in hard times and how effective is it? Hearing a kind word would be nice when feeling bad (particularly if reason is physical). For mental/emotional challenges I believe the best support for me is when I focus how to move forward and not backwards or stand still. Meditation and positive affirmations as well as dbt technique are very helpful.
- What are some other strategies that you could try in order to feel more supported? I think having a chat from time to time helps and focussing on the good things that are there in life.
