Hi, Ami,
I do think it's important and fun to follow some Christmas traditions. Others I wish we'd end, like gifts. Instead of gifts for everyone, think how wonderful it would be if we helped others instead. What a beautiful holiday that would be. I like to decorate, but I don't have the drive right now. I bought ping pong balls for my kitty, Chloe. We were playing with them tonight. I'd love to go to Church on Christmas eve, but I have a lot of social anxiety, and it usually wins. So I probably won't go. I'll pray at home though. I would go out with friends, but I don't have any. I would go out with co-workers, but no one has said anything about a get-together. I sent a card to a lady I used to live by. I also want to give a card to a lady that lives downstairs. She seems like an exceptionally nice person. I have a blog and I post lots of winter and holiday themed pics and videos around this time of year. I would go caroling but don't know if the people in my neighborhood do that. We'll see.

114 Million people in US are expected to travel to see friends and family. I am a stay at home person. Come to the Mindfulness Christmas Celebration in mindfulness at 3:30 PM EST on Dec 25th and 6PM EST in Fifty Plus for open chat celebration.
TW political and historical violence
I don't know how much of a 'usual' there is for Christmas day here as different people have different traditions.
For families that do gifts from Santa and stockings, thise tend to be opened Christmas morning. People tend to gather for some type of meal; turkey, ham, tourtiere, Chinese takeout are some of the more popular foods.
Traditions are important to me but things also shift over time. There's sadly been a lot of politics involved with dates. I have decided to continue with recognizing a Christmas Eve on Jan 6. My great grandfather who immigrated here due to genocidal acts encouraged his children to assimilate to the culture here and took action to prevent tracing things back. My grandparents though always recognized Christmas on the 7th and kept their traditional meal on the 6th, even when there was intolerance and hatred towards this. They also embraced the culture here and had a traditional meal on the 24th and a turkey dinner on the 25th. So for me, carrying this on is a way to honour them.

I think some traditions are good. This business of having to be with family is not so good. Some families need to be avoided. Unfortunately, because everyone else is with their families, I'm alone on Christmas.
This next thing might be a little more controversial. I can't stand these new pop renditions of Christmas carols. They're disgusting, in my opinion. These songs need to be sung in the way they were intended. It's hard to know how some of these were supposed to be sung, but it's certainly not the way the way they're being sung now.
