I'm just angry all the time

Hi, I'm the much older mother of a 10 year old and I find myself resentful of her difficulties. I love her to pieces but it's always something the last few weeks and I can't seem to get into a rhythm. She's anxious. She's got gerd. We see Dr's every week. I don't want to use her as an excuse and I might be. Why am I angry and then crying all the time? I'm post menopause! Lol.

Hello there! Thank you for reaching out! Having a loved one or a child battling mental illness can take a toll on you as a parent to watch your child go through anxious episodes. It's because as parents we want our children to be healthy and happy and seeing them fighting against mental illness can be really hard and tough. It can also be because you are trying to be strong for her and it's causing you to bottle up your emotions in an effort not to "add to her anxiety".

Talking to someone about how to best help your child can be really helpful! There are many wonderful and compassionate listeners that are ready to support and listen to you. You can browse the listener page here:

Yes, thank you. I just hate that I'm angry with her sometimes over seemingly nothing.

During my postmenopausal time I had lots of issues with being overly sensitive (I am naturally very sensitive already). There are many symptoms related to post menopause which also include irritability and anger. You can read more about it in the forum 50+ Women's Topics like Menopause and Perimenopause. One thing I learned and found very helpful is to be kind and forgiving to yourself and do lots of selfcare.

Sorry to hear about your daughter, I can only imagine how worrisome it must be for you. I hope her condition will improve soon.
