๐ what was the most popular toy during your childhood??๐
@Tinywhisper11
So many, barbie, cars, dolls, stuffed toys, kitchen play sets etc!๐ฎ
@Sunisshiningandsoareyou I bet you wish you still had the imagination of a child to play like you used to โค what was your favourite??
@Tinywhisper11
Hehe for sure, Lolabeanieee.๐
I didn't play too much, enjoyed collecting more lol.๐
What's a toy you would enjoy playing with?๐ค
@Sunisshiningandsoareyou for xmas this year I bought my son a remote control car, and it looked so cool, I had to by myself one too ๐ in gonna have fun playing with that๐๐๐โค I love you sunny boo โค
@Tinywhisper11
Aww a remote controlled car is indeed fun to play with. Happy vrooming, Lolabeanieee, but drive safe lOl!๐ค I love you moreee!๐
@Sunisshiningandsoareyou omg these were amazing. In addicition, every Christmas season, the toy store chain made a catalogue and we always marked in it the things we want ๐ we obviously marked half of the catalogue, but it gave our parents a good understanding of what we want and they could pick something out. We also always wrote a wishlist ๐
I always loved kitchen toys, my dad even made me a stove out of cardboard when I was a child. And well, I was a big bookworm, and loved creative stuff
@sadcat13
Haha that sounds amazing, too many options to choose from and of course as kids, what's even "too many toys"?!๐ฅฐ
Aww how sweet of your dad to make that stove for you. Kitchen play sets were real fun to play with. Lol I remember hosting "tea parties" with my cousins! XD Absolute fun times!๐ฅน
@Sunisshiningandsoareyou yesssss, can't forget making the plastic baked chicken and handing it to my dad to "eat" with a random foam crafty things as soup ๐
@sadcat13 sounds like you had a lot of fun โคโค
@Tinywhisper11 yesss โค๏ธ
@Tinywhisper11
All of them. I was smart enough to make sure every single toy I owned was a popular one. Popular to others but most importantly popular for me since Iโd be the one to play with them everyday :)
@akunknown โค sounds like you were a bit spoilt๐ and for that I'm glad โคโค did you keep any of your old toys??
@Tinywhisper11
I wouldnโt call it being โa bit spoiledโ since I had to earn all those toys (bday gifts and Christmas presents being the only exceptions lol) by being a good student in school, good at home, good in public, if I was bad anytime itโd be noted so if I was bad 5x Iโd lose 5 toys bc they wouldnโt be bought for me by anyone but bc I wasnโt bad I always got the toys I wanted unless they were too expensive lol.ย
One of the times this happened that I actually remember was when we were at that old Toys R Us store and as I was picking which toy I wanted (I wanted both but was told get one now and next time get the other one but I wanted both bc I was afraid next time I came the other one wouldnโt be there anymore lol) I saw the Batmobile (Batmanโs car from the 1989 movie) and pointed at it with excitement!!! My brother knew it wasnโt real. It was just an inflatable version of it but to a child like me it was real and drivable haha! So thatโs what I wanted. But they were just displays, not for sale. But bc I was just a kid I didnโt know or understand that. I just knew I saw it and wanted it!!
@akunknown awwww, it sounds like you had a great childhood โค I bet you were a cute kid โคโค do you go to family houses for xmas this year??
@Tinywhisper11
No. Everyone has their own agenda this year and I think I need a break from everyone so it all works out as a win for everyone so I encouraged them all to go ahead with whatever they wanted.ย
@Tinywhisper11
Unfortunately no I didnโt get to keep any of them. As much as I wanted to and tried my best to keep them all, my sister felt I was too old for toys and threw them out. Omg I was so angry at her for that. But now everytime itโs mentioned - even if itโs jokingly - she apologizes so sounds like she regrets it now looking back on it even though I already forgave her and let it goย
@akunknown your very lucky to have a family โค and having a nice family seems rare thread days โค hold on to every precious memory โค
@Tinywhisper11
โyour very lucky to have a family โคโ
I used to believe that as a child but once I found out what type of person my mom really was I realized I wasnโt as lucky as I thought in terms of the family I have.ย
โand having a nice family seems rare thread daysโคโ
I felt like it was always rare tbh but maybe, just maybe, more so now. But idk.ย
โhold on to every precious memory โคโ
I always do :)
@akunknown I never had any family, so I only learn what it's like through people's threads here! We'll except my 8 cups family โคโค
@Tinywhisper11
Well Iโm happy for you now having a family. But more importantly, a kind family. Not a toxic or abusive one.ย
Depending on who you (you in this case meaning anyone) talk to or ask, youโll probably get different answers/responses on the subject of having a family. Some people might say they hear you on always wanting a family. Others whoโve had bad family experiences may simply tell you to count your blessings.ย
Hess truck
@creativeStrings1531 well I know it's a toy truck but I'm don't know what a hess truck is, I'll have to look it up โค I hope you and your partner have a great xmas โค
It used to be a gas station but the gas station went out of business but they still sell the truck Hess gas station they always came out with a new truck every year
@creativeStrings1531
omg I remember that gas station! My dad used to get me Hess toys every year as a Christmas gift. I remember the truck, helicopter, and all the others. I loved them as a kid.ย
I vividly recall that terrible toy, skip it.
Where you strap ball chains around a kids ankle and make them swing it as fast as they can ๐
@LostDollNC ๐๐๐๐๐ I have actually seen them๐๐ not the safest of toys. Did you have one?
@Tinywhisper11
My childhood was between 1970s and 1980s, so I believe many toys were different than now:
#1 Most girls dreamed about a doll. Our dolls were made of plastic, usually had big heads with moving eyeballs and eyelids, golden or red hair (kind of Cyndi Lauper style) and a short and plump body. They tended to lose their moving limbs after a long usage ๐ย
#2 Many boys wanted a self-propelled toy Russian tank. It was green and noisy, made of thin metal, necessarily with red stars on its sides. There were two versions: one had a blinking light in the barrel of the gun, another could shoot with plastic bullets.
#3 Remotely steered car models. Most often they were either Fiat 125 or Fiat 126, very detailed, with their lights on. Things like RF or IR being not common yet, the remote was on 1.5 yard long cable ๐
#4 Plastic soldier figures with a DIY painting kit. Usually they were supposed to be colourful, because they were soldiers of Napoleonic wars, or anything from 18th or 19th Century. Painting them required some skill. I still remember the sweet smell of these paints ๐ย
#5 Little electrician set, including a battery, some different lights and switches, an electric motor, a loudspeaker, a bell and the Morse code key (anybody remembers what is it? ๐).
Receiving gifts was usually rare, children were not flooded with toys like nowadays...
@jacek73 ๐ โค I'm glad you remember them all โค I'd like the toy soldiers to paint, and the tank with shooting balls โค toys back then we're made much better than today's toys. Did you keep any of your old toys?
@Tinywhisper11
Unfortunately not. A few years ago my son received a little electrician set - but this one was Chinese, looking colourful and nice, and more fragile - the one from the Soviet era was with no colours and really sturdy ๐ย
A tank (and a doll, I believe) I saw just a few weeks ago while I visited the exhibition about the People's Republic of Poland everyday realities in the local museum. Went there twice or thrice.
The first time I visited the exhibition it was an emotionally moving experience. As if I was 40+ years back, seeing the same nursery school or the same rooms, with the same furniture and an old tape recorder or gramophone playing some old records.
I still have somewhere at my cousin's place my first and only typewriter, I used to write some poems, too. It was completely mechanical (no electricity at all), and weighted about 25 kg (50 lb)!
@jacek73 type writers do look pretty cool, maybe one day they'll make a comeback โค I heard a few years ago that a typewriter can now be seen in a local museum๐ the fun you must of had โคโค
@Tinywhisper11
I loved the one I used because it had quite nice font, not too simple or boring, but stylish, half-way between Poster Bodoni and Garamond.ย
In one of my schools we had wooden boards to cover the keyboard from our sight and use our muscle memory instead. There was some spacing between the keys, so if you missed hitting the key it could be really painful ๐ย
I think the biggest problem nowadays for using such an equipment could be where to find some inked ribbon, made of fabric, and of the right width. But who knows...
Cabbage Patch dolls. They came with birth certificates LOL
@1BraveBunny ๐๐ I have seen them, they look kinda funny๐๐ I did not know they came with birth certificates though โคโค
They sure did, lol... they had a first and middle name. Mine's name was Elaine Jackie
@1BraveBunny that's a nice name, did you keep it that name or change it??
