How do you unwind?

Metanoia00 May 21st, 2023

I've recently jumped back in as a Listener after years away. One thing I cannot seem to do is unwind properly after a long day of listening. How do all of you take a moment to separate yourselves from the things you heard or helped with??

Hey hey @theprodigalsister, lovely to meet you and welcome back to the community! πŸ’›

Super understandable to find it a bit extra hard to unwind and find a pace after being on a hiatus. We have a Welcome Back Committee now, you can find information here (clickable), and reach out. Your peers and mentors are here for you. πŸ’›

After any difficult chats, or chats in general, if needed you can always reach out to a peer supporter, they are trained listeners who can help us debrief how we feel after a chat, just having that safe space to share our feelings from the chat can be helpful in unwinding/ :moving on" from the chat, I feel. You can find peer supporters in the listener support room usually!

You can also connect with mentors Here for any guidance, support, encouragement needed along the way!

In general for self care and unwinding, it helps me to not take chats one after another, take breaks when necessary, do something for my self care like listening to music, journaling, going for a walk etc, different things work for people differently and we can always continue to try!

Lots of ideas from our team mates here: https://www.7cups.com/forum/ListenerLearningJourney_149/SelfCareandFun_2246/SelfCareWhatdidyoudoforyourselftoday_18053/ I hope you find something nice too! πŸ’›

@theprodigalsister Hi, welcome (back) to being a listener.

This is a great question!

Personally, i like to unwind by scheduling time offline, listening to music, going for a walk, reading, or watching tv. What brings you joy and helps you de-stress? Try doing one or two of those activities when you need a break from 7cups.

Remember, you can't pour from an empty cup. You need to take time throughout the week to rest, for your own mental health.

And if ever get stuck during a chat, please reach out to a listener coach, who can help with resources to guide you though it.
