Is emotional detachment a, for lack of better word, symptom of depression?

...See more I've been very emotionally detached for over 6 months. It's as if I am completely emotionless. For example, if something sad were to happen, it wouldn't phase me; same goes for something happy. I've always thought that maybe the buildup of negative emotions could have led to me repressing everything, but was recently told it's a form of depression. So I was wondering if that was true.
