Day 22: Create meaningful holiday traditions to cherish
7 Cups Online Therapy / by ASilentObserver
Last post

...See more Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well. This post is part of the 25 Days of Gratitude, Self-Care, and Personal Growth event at 7 Cups.  The pressure to experience joy and create cherished holiday memories can be overwhelming. The holidays can be a difficult time, especially if you spend them without loved ones. Whether you are far from family, lost someone close and loved one, or making conscious choices about your relationships, the holiday season can be daunting.  Traditionally speaking, holiday seasons are a time of joy, fun, and celebration but for many, it is a difficult time of the year when they experience heightened feelings of grief, loneliness seasonal depression, or anxiety. But it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t find something to be joyful. There are many ways to create meaningful and personalized holiday traditions that can bring comfort, joy, and a sense of connection, even during challenging times. 1. Revive and honor old traditions that you enjoyed  You may have some old traditions that you enjoyed but now you don’t do them anymore due to one or other reasons. But this season, you may rethink bringing some of those old traditions to cherish the memories associated with them. Such attempts can bring a sense of connection and continuity.  You can also choose to honor loved ones by creating personalized ornaments to hang on the Christmas tree like photos, and handwritten letters, or volunteer your time to special charities or causes.  2. Cook your favorite meal This one is my personal favorite as cooking your favorite meal is simply therapeutic. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy or a holiday feast, it can be as simple as making your favorite sandwich, toast, or some hot soup. The process of making your meal is calm and relaxing. So, just make an effort to make something for yourself this holiday season.  3. Gift something to yourself Giving gifts to yourself does not make you materialistic or selfish. It just makes you human. The gift can be anything that you like, maybe a book, a cup of coffee, some nature photographs or a meal at your favorite diner. It is one of the ways to celebrate yourself and a reminder that you deserve to feel good about yourself this season as much as anyone else.  So, let’s rethink how we spend our time this holiday season. I understand that it is a tough time of the year for you but know that you deserve time to be easy on yourself and try to be gentle and kinder to yourself. Please know the holidays don't have to be a time of sadness or isolation. Create your traditions to find joy, comfort, and a sense of purpose during this holiday season.  Let us know in the comments if you have any traditions of yours already or thinking of something to make one this year.

Post #2: Clarification on the Community Leader Badge
Group Support / by ASilentObserver
Last post
...See more Hello everyone, I hope you are all taking care of your well-being. If you have spent time in the group support chats, you may have likely seen some members with a Community Leader role listed under their usernames.  Community Leader is a badge that acts as an umbrella for all group chat badges that used to be visible in the rooms. You can read more about it here.  [https://www.7cups.com/forum/groupmod/GroupSupportInformationandUpdates_822/WhatistheCommunityLeaderBadge_305740/] But this post is to address a challenge that members with the Community Leader badge have been experiencing lately. We received some feedback that they are seen as people who can’t have challenges if they possess this badge. This is a common misconception. The badge is actually a form of recognition to appreciate the above-and-beyond efforts of a member for their compassionate support in the group chats through certain activities like hosting a Sharing Circle session. It is a token of gratitude and an umbrella badge for some of the badges they might hold due to their group chat activities. Here is the list of all roles/ badges that fall under it.  [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1B1mgSyCwIYJzeli0bqK2QTB3mRATiBu3DkaYz6lo6h4/] However, it doesn’t mean a member with the CL badge can’t have struggles or can be less than any other member to get support in the group chats. A member is a member first and a community leader second. We hope this clears it up! I hope this helps. So let’s continue to be kind and supportive to them like other members as well as recognize and appreciate their dedication. Let’s continue to care for each other and be part of each other’s healing and recovery journey.

Day 20: Self-Compassion: How to Be Kind to Yourself
7 Cups Online Therapy / by ASilentObserver
Last post
...See more Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well. This post is part of the 25 Days of Gratitude, Self-Care, and Personal Growth event at 7 Cups.  Self-compassion is not selfish; it is essential for your well-being. I understand that some days can be hard. You had a bad day, you are feeling sick, you feel like you are not good enough, you are failing and making mistakes. What do you tell yourself when you experience a situation like this?  Do you indulge in negative thoughts? Or practice self-compassion and kindness?  Different research conducted on this, reveals that the deliberate practice of self-compassion can alleviate anxiety, stress, and intrusive thoughts. Self-compassion plays a pivotal role in coping with stress.  However, it is easier said than done when you are struggling and feeling low. Instead, many of us become our worst critics, and it becomes a constant loop. But somewhere, you have to get started to break this cycle.  Here are some exercises that you may try to practice self-compassion deliberately:  Exercise #1.  Self-Compassionate Letter  It is a powerful tool to practice self-kindness and understanding. It involves writing a letter to yourself, offering empathy and support, just as you would to a good friend. You can practice it as per your comfort either daily or weekly. Here is how you can do this:  * Write a letter to yourself as if you were a dear friend. * Acknowledge your struggles and difficulties with kindness and understanding. * Offer words of encouragement, support, and reassurance. * Read the letter aloud to yourself, allowing the words to sink in. Exercise #2. Self-Compassion Break Whenever you feel stressed, take a moment to practice a self-compassion break and you may feel more confident and composed. Here is how you can practice it:  * When you notice you are feeling overwhelmed or stressed, take a short break. * Find a quiet place and sit comfortably. * Take some comfortable deep breaths. * Repeat a self-compassionate phrase, such as  * "This is a difficult moment, but I can handle it.", * “It is okay to be not okay.”,  * “I believe in myself. I got this.”  * “I will get through this moment.” Exercise #3. Gratitude Practice Practicing gratitude regularly improves your mental health, strengthens your relationships, and increases your overall happiness. Here is how you can get started:  * Take a moment each day to reflect on what you are grateful for. It doesn’t need to be big ones. All small ones count too. * This could be anything from your health to your relationships to simple pleasures. * Focusing on the positive aspects of your life can help boost your self-esteem and overall well-being. * Never force yourself to be grateful. If you are struggling, share your challenges and what you are learning from them.  Questions for you * How do you practice self-compassion? * What is a barrier/ challenge that prevents you from practicing self-compassion?

Day 15: Share a small act of kindness you witnessed or experienced

...See more Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well. This post is part of the 25 Days of Gratitude, Self-Care, and Personal Growth event at 7 Cups.  A small act of kindness goes a long way.   The power of kindness is underrated in a world filled with daily challenges, struggles, and chaos. Kindness is a beautiful thing to give and experience. Experiencing kindness makes you believe in goodness. When you act kind to someone, they feel good and are inclined to pay it forward to someone else. A small act of kindness creates ripple effects, and it is a never-ending loop.  So this holiday season, let’s come together and practice kindness in any small ways.  Also let's spread some positivity! ✨ Share a small act of kindness you witnessed or experienced recently. It could be anything from a simple smile to a heartfelt gesture. Let's inspire each other to make the world a kinder place. ❤️

Day 10: Building Resilience in Challenging Times
7 Cups Online Therapy / by ASilentObserver
Last post
December 10th
...See more Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well. This post is part of the 25 Days of Gratitude, Self-Care, and Personal Growth event at 7 Cups.  Difficult times can test your resilience, but they also allow for building resilience and a progressive mindset. Resilience is the ability to bounce back from adversity, adapt to change, and find strength in the face of difficulty. It's a skill that can be developed and strengthened over time, and it's imperative in challenging times. The holiday season is often seen as a time of joy and celebration. However, it can also present different challenges for many. While the festive vibes tend to bring people together and have some good times, for many it can be a time of loneliness, stress, grief, and financial challenges.  Some of the common challenges during the holiday one may experience range from pressure to maintain a facade of happiness and joy to individuals who lost their loved ones experiencing loneliness and grief. So, it is important to acknowledge those emotions and experiences and understand holidays can be challenging for many people.  So to build resilience this holiday season or during challenging times, here are some tips that I found helpful and I hope you all can as well:  Start with a pause. To become resilient, it starts with knowing how your brain works. When you are dealing with stress, your brain works differently. So, instead of an instant reaction to anything, if one can try to take a pause, it can help you respond to stress in a better way.  Focus on developing healthy habits. When there is a challenge, it is hard to maintain routine and one can have trouble bouncing back if they are not taking care of their well-being. So, it is important to focus on maintaining a daily routine and developing healthy habits.  Have a problem-solving mindset. It can be hard to cope with and navigate challenging times. However, trying to have a problem-solving mindset encourages you to view these challenges as an opportunity to learn something new and explore solutions or ways to tackle these challenges.  Celebrate small wins. When you are experiencing challenging situations, it is important to identify and celebrate all small wins. Recognizing and appreciating these small wins allows you to feel more confident and empowered to deal with challenges and continue to take your small steps forward.  Resilience is a journey, not a linear process. The process of building resilience isn’t linear at all. It is more like a zigzag curve where someday you will be making some good gains and some days will be harder to make any progress. But that’s okay. It is part of the resilience process and your every step is counting towards it. So every time, there is a harder day, give yourself a pat and credit that you’ve gotten this far and you can take on the next thing that comes your way.  Questions for you:  * How is the holiday season challenging for you?  * What steps can you take today to further develop your resilience?
