Second... uh, what are these things called 'bios' are supposed to be again?

So, I am known here as Katharsis or simply, Kath.(Also 'Silver', if there are other Kaths) You might see present in the chatrooms. Been here since 2018 or 2017... and still here, I guess. Is there more to it?

Well, I am a student. I ironically used to teach whilst being a student at the same time. I've taken an interest in psychology before and researched it often in the past. But I am still educating myself about it. It is a growing field of science, and there's always new discoveries of the psyche as time goes on. (:

I can be considered as what some people call a voracious reader. I exercise often. I draw and sketch, but not as often as I used to. Kept up the habit of journaling at least once a week for years(5-7 y.?) now and... that's it, I guess. This seems to be getting monotonous. Haha.

▪︎Fun Fact: I didn't drink coffee for about three years now. And I rarely have tea, too.

I'll take off before both the coffee and tea fans gang up on me.

Random Questions and Answers:

Q1-"How did you find 7 Cups?"

I don't really remember well, but I think it was when I first heard the terms of 'Mental-Health', 'Psychology' and such that then when I had internet available later on, I researched about those and found this community. I think it was even amongst the very first sites I've encountered when I had access to the Internet.

Q2-"What issue(s) you have that has brought you here? What are your diagnoses?

I do not know. (': I figure I had some things in mind when I first came here. I didn't receive any official diagnoses, so I don't have any verified mental issue.

-"Well, what are you currently dealing with?"

Mainly, sleep related problems. Psychotic symptoms and orthorexic-bulimic symptoms too. (just issues with eating, I am not sure about which term to give it).

Q3-"Where are you from?"

Why, from Earth, of course.(: Worry not about being invaded soon by some intergalactic species or anything of that sort.

Q4-"How many languages do you speak?"

Mainly just two.(In terms of the four language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing). Still open for new languages and to improve current ones that I have a certain understanding of.(:

Q5-"You kinda sound old?"

Really? Plot twist: I am twenty years old, as far as I know, at least. I wouldn't say that's very young though, but many people seem to consider it to be a fairly young age.

Q6-"Any hobbies?

Surviving?

Just joking.

What I have in mind is writing, reading, drawing, making collections, and sewing.

Q7-"Any favourite book genres?"

I read about all genres except romance.

I am currently reading a variety of books and going over some references. Mainly non-fiction of history books and scriptures.

Thank you all, Cups members for all these past book recommendations: "Amusing Ourselves to Death", "Beyond Co-dependency", "The Strangest Man", "The Daily Stoic", "God is Not Dead", "L'Insatisfasion Corporelle".

Q9-"Religion/Faith?"

For now, I am still exploring. I guess I may just hope for some answers.

I generally agree that there's something that seems to make everyone susceptible or/and inclined to have a belief or more throughout history, and just shrugging that off is arbitrary.

Q10-"No coffee nor tea?? How blasphemous!"

I generally try to avoid caffeine.(':

Here are some things that will likely cause an existential crisis so you can think of, because why not..? Brace yourselves...>

1-Did you know that your body has approximately 36-28 trillions cells, and one million cells die every second?

2-If there's so many different ideologies and philosophies for the purpose of humans, which one is true? Or is there some truth in some of them or each one of them?

3-What would you call "Meaningful"?

4-If a human is a byproduct of evolution and is therefore bound by nature and material, how come humans can have thoughts(which are metaphysical)? Can those neurological responses be trusted?

5-There's this strange internal guidance for proper morals within every being. Is there not? What can be defined as "Morally Right"?

I'll stop here..(':

Thread: Quadrantids Meteor Shower(2025
Around the World / by Katharsis22
Last post
January 2nd
...See more Overview The Quadrantids meteor shower is one of the most significant meteor showers of the year, typically peaking in early January. The radiant point* for the Quadrantids is located in the constellation Boötes, near the border with the constellation Hercules.  The Quadrantids are predicted to reach peak during the night of January 3rd to the early morning of January 4th, 2025. Under optimal conditions, the Quadrantids can produce up to 120 meteors per hour, although this rate can vary, depending on the observer's location and weather conditions.  Viewing Conditions in 2025: ▪︎Moon Phase: In 2025, the moon will be in a waning gibbous phase(Growing into the first quarter), providing some light interference, which might reduce visibility. ▪︎Best Viewing Time: The best time to observe the Quadrantids, or meteor showers in general, is typically between midnight and dawn, when the sky is darkest and the radiant point is highest in the sky. Tips for Observing Meteor Showers: 1-Choose a location away from city lights as far as possible to improve visibility. 2-Spend at least 20-30 minutes in the dark to allow your eyes to adjust. 3-For the inhabitants of the Northern Hemisphere, January nights can be cold, so dress appropriately to stay comfortable while observing. So, if you can spare some time during the night of the third of January, you may consider looking out for the Quadrantids. ☆May you enjoy the show. ____________________ For details of the meteor shower specified by your region, check the Timeanddate website. About New Year Resolutions...
Healthy Living / by Katharsis22
Last post
December 24th
...See more It is that time of the year once again. As we reach the end of another year, many consider the change of the year as a new fresh start. Some prepare their goals, those goals are usually made for improving their lives..  Known as New Year Resolutions, these are commitments or goals that individuals often set at the beginning or shortly before the of a new year. While it is still a good for one to consider setting these 'resolutions' for the betterment of his/her well-being by noting down their aspirations to commit to in the near future, most people will not succeed. As statistics of the recent years in the west indicate, about 80-92% of adults who set New Year Resolutions will give them up by February. (1) So, how to actually make your resolutions come true? First of all, I would like to point out that everytime you, let's say, think of something you are capable of doing to improve your life, you do not have to wait until the beginning of another year to work on it; you do not need a certain time of a year as an excuse to do so generally. If you see this post in 2025, I encourage you to read the rest of this if you have something in mind that will help you improve. It All Begins With True Intention... So, before you set your resolutions/goals, you need the intention; to be determined and aware of the implications of what you will set yourself to do. Since it really it does not matter how many articles, journals or videos about how to set goals you read will benefit in the long-run if you would only wrote them down on a paper and not 'will' yourself achieve them later, especially when other inevitable life pressures arise and interfere with your progress later on. PART ONE: Common Themes & Pitfalls: 1-What are the common themes of New Year Resolutions? Your resolution may include the following themes: ▪︎Physical and Mental Health: The focus on physical fitness, mental health, and overall well-being. ▪︎Financial Goals: Aiming to save money, reduce debt, or invest wisely. ▪︎Relationships: Improving connections with family and friends. ▪︎Professional Development: Whih include advancing in a career or acquiring new skills. 2-Why do many individuals fail to sustain their New Year Resolutions? New Year resolutions often fail for various reasons. Here are some common mistakes that can make them unsuccessful: ▪︎'Vague'/'Unclear' Goals: Resolutions like "Get fit" or "Save more money" lack clear definitions, making it hard to measure. ▪︎Unrealistic expectations and Overambitious Goals: People may aim too high, setting goals that are difficult to achieve within a year. ▪︎No Actionable Plan: Many resolutions are made without a practical plan for how to achieve them. ▪︎No Monitoring of Progress: People often forget to check their progress, leading to disconnection from their goals. ▪︎Loss of Motivation: The excitement of a new year can fade quickly, leading to decreased commitment. ▪︎Unexpected Events: Life challenges (like job changes or personal issues) can derail their plans. ▪︎Negative Mindset: A lack of confidence or fear of failure can prevent people from fully committing to their resolutions. ▪︎All-or-Nothing Thinking: Viewing progress as binary(to be either complete success or failure) can lead to discouragement. By viewing these common issues and other individuals' experiences, you can increase their chances of successfully achieving your resolutions. Mainly by setting realistic, specific goals and maintaining discipline which will be the key components of success. PART TWO: Goal Setting & Maintenance: 1-Creating S.M.A.R.T. Goals: The SMART goal model was first proposed for business objectives. It is also proven to be useful for setting goals related to other purposes, including self-improvement. Original Model: (S)pecific-target a specific area for im- provement. (M)easurable-quantify or at least suggest an indicator of progress.  (A)ssignable-specify who will do it. (R)ealistic-state what results can realisti- cally be achieved, given available re- sources. (T)ime-related-specify when the result(s) can be achieved. (2) Here's how it can be used: ▪︎Make the Goal Specific: Don't set vague goals; outline what needs to be accomplished to get it done. ▪︎Make it Measurable: Allow the progress of the goals be identifiable and possible to track. ▪︎Make it Achievable: You need to make you resolutions workable, otherwise it will be difficult to achieve if they are far from reality. ▪︎Make it Relevant: Ensure that the goals matters and aligns with other objectives. ▪︎Make it Time-Bound: Set a deadline for your goals. In case of a New Year Resolution, that is a year. Example: Say, you want to "Exercise more". Ask yourself:  -What needs to be accomplished in order to be more fit?(Specify) -How would you know you progressed or did reach your fitness goal?(Measurable) -Is it possible to add some exercises to my schedule?(Achievable) -Is it worthwhile to you?(Relevant) -How long will you work on this?(Time-bound) For instance, my current, main ftness goal is to stay fit and gain muscle. I specified before that I will exercise daily. In order to accomplish this, I made a weekly schedule with two specific workouts to do throughout the week during the morning. I can measure my progress by a check-list I update every month to see how many days I did workout. It is possible for me do the exercise on my schedule since they are on my level; not too hard but not easy either. I plan to follow the schedule for another three months. (An example of a specified plan) Additionally, you can search on-line for a printable SMART Goals sheet to aid you with setting your goals.   (From: https://www.typecalendar.com/smart-goals.html) 2-Maintaining Goals: ▪︎At times, you may need to reflect on your plans and make necessary adjustments. Make sure to check-in and review your progress. From time to time, you may realise you can do better or realise that your goal was far-fetched and needs to be re-arranged.(e.g. Going over your plans monthly can help with maintaining long-term). ▪︎Sometimes, some unexpected disruptions can occur and affect your planned goals. During those times, you will need to be flexible. You might need to cancel some plans and get them done later when possible.(e.g. You can not exercise in the morning during some days so you move them for another time in evening in when you will be free). ▪︎Find away to be accountable.(e.g. Make a check-list or join a community that shares the same goal). ▪︎Set reminders.(e.g. add what you need to do on a calendar or phone alarms). 3-Extra Tips: ▪︎You may write down your ultimate goal somewhere where you can see everyday. Like near where you wake-up or your desk/worktable. ▪︎You don't necessarily need expensive items/equipment for many self-improvement oriented goals, but you may consider buying what can help you or motivate towards them. It can be simple as buying a notebook to track your progress or a thermos flask to help you drink more water. ▪︎Limit distractions. Consider the 'resolution(s)' as a promise for your future self, once you set them, remind yourself why you wanted to commit to this. For now, you may take a bit of time to reflect back on this year and see what part of life you can improve for yourself. QUESTION: Is there something you really appreciated and would like to keep doing, or/and is there something you would like to change for the next year? - __________________________ (1) For more exact stats on that specifically, check: https://www.driveresearch.com/market-research-company-blog/new-years-resolutions-statistics/ https://www.statista.com/chart/26577/us-new-years-resolutions-gcs/ https://insideoutmastery.com/new-years-resolution-statistics/ (2) George T. A Daily Challenge (Facing "Fear Foods")
Eating Disorder Support / by Katharsis22
Last post
November 7th, 2024
...See more Hello Community. I present to you a challenge you can do for the next fortnight. Basically, here, I have a container that bears multiple pieces of paper, with each paper having a food item written on it. I'll post one food item that will be selected randomly everyday. ●What are "fear foods", you may ask? It is a term used to describe certain nutrients that one is afraid to eat. The reason for the fear and avoidance of a certain food can vary from one person to another(Like anxiety, Irrational fear of weight gain, etc). ●Who can take this challenge? Almost everyone. Specifically, anyone who has a restrictive eating disorder / has a bad relationship with food. But it's preferable for persons who are still in the beginning of recovery or/and they are severely underweight to not join this. That's because they might risk having some health problems without any prior consultation of a dietitian. •Suggestion: make a list of all of the food items you tend to avoid. It can help you navigate the fear you may have surrounding them, and getting rid of any Irrational fears that is disrupting your day-to-day life. By November, the challenge can be restarted and include the kinds of food you struggle to have. For now, it'll be random, chosen from my container. So you'll need to push through. This challenge will span from the 24th/Oct to the 6/Nov. So, we'll start tomorrow.

...See more Hello everyone. Just a quick accolade to the people who got up in the morning instead of staying asleep, started their day, and been getting some work done today(the days after this publication counts too) whilst having no motivation whatsoever. This might sound weird because it's common-sense, but really, not that many seem to do that often in this day and age. Which makes it easier in a way to take a step ahead of the majority. This isn't meant to discourage anyone who couldn't manage to do so. You may also consider it as a slight 'push' forward for those who are behind to catch up. ((: Take care.
