I'm an older woman (she/her) with lots of compassion, and I'm comfortable talking about a variety of mental health issues.  I've been through a lot with my own bipolar disorder so I can offer real empathy.  Please note: I will not tolerate explicit or inappropriate sex talk.

...See more Allow me to say, first of all, that I am not LGBTQ+ MOGII.  After this post I intend to leave this space for those who are. I came here, on this day, to express support and affirmation. It should not be an issue that you as a community face threats to acceptance, dignity, respect, safety, or civil rights because of how you identify, present, love, see yourself, feel, who you are attracted to and how, or what you feel the need to explore. Hateful bigotry should not be acceptable, let alone encouraged or emboldened. I may be just one voice, but I will gladly use that voice to affirm that you have a right - you deserve - to exist as you are. You deserve to be loved as is. No matter what anyone else says, I will see you as a human being and I will respect you as such.  -Sophia

...See more My profile picture represents something important to me: connectedness. We are connected to those around us and we have a responsibility to one another to honor those connections. When we affirm each other, we strengthen community. It doesn’t matter if we are different. Our differences can enrich us if we let them. What tears us apart is when we allow differences to feed division. Hatred. That gets us nowhere. On this day I wish to express support for those around me. It doesn’t matter to me what you look like, or where you come from, or what language you speak, or what you think of God or the universe, or how you think of yourself, or who you love and how. What matters to me is that you are a human being with a good heart. If you are struggling, reach out your hands to the people next to you. We need each other. Affirm them as they affirm you. Send your acceptance and respect to them, and to the next people down the line, and the next, and the next, etc. For those who feel like they are isolated, look around. There are many outstretched hands waiting for you. Take them.   - Sophia

The power of diversity in discussions

...See more I was recently reminded of something very powerful. It can be a really fantastic thing to have a discussion with a group of people who have different backgrounds, opinions, feelings, ways they perceive the world, or ways they express themselves. That diversity provides a wonderfully rich environment for learning and expanding our appreciation for one another! Even more important, though, is that such conversations demonstrate trust and acceptance.  To some degree, it might not even matter what the conversation is actually about. Knowing that you’re safe, accepted, and valued just as you are is an incredibly powerful thing - especially in a community like this one. While it may not always be easy, I’d encourage you to have conversations that you might not ordinarily have. Express yourself honestly and respectfully. Listen to others with the same respect. Try openly supporting someone who approaches the topic from a different angle than you do. It is ok, and they are ok. And so are you.

I have never met a listener quite like Sophia. She has helped me through a very difficult time, and without her support I wouldn’t be where I am now. There are not enough words to describe how much of an amazing person she is, but she is undoubtedly the most kind, gentle and understanding person I have ever spoken to. I felt fully heard and safe talking with her, and was able to trust her enough to open up about my issues. She is professional but also easy to talk to and genuine.
