B.Sc & M.Sc in Science & 2 Years Teaching Experience

I live and teach Geochemistry in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I love exploring the rocky coast for geologically diverse outcrops. With my M.Sc in Geology, I've learned a ton about earth's treasures. I've extended that learning to be able to provide honest and seasoned mental health support for those needing someone to share their life experiences with. Come for a chat, stay for a little or a while and maybe you will find yourself a little smarter :D

Wellness & Education

I value being able to get a quality education. It can be difficult to do so when you are dealing with mental challenges. I aim to improve the education environment by promoting healthy mindsets and systems that help students get quality education.

...See more How often have you felt a sense of impending doom for you or someone you love? ANXIETY is a very real and valid experience that the majority of people experience. Understanding how it works can significantly improve your ability to cope and work through some really tough life experiences. ANXIETY is your brain's response to a situation that is poorly understood or is lacking necessary information. It is different from FEAR, but works closely with it. Often times, ANXIETY will persist until the threat of uncertainty has dissipated or another emotion has taken control (i.e Fear, Sadness, Depression). When someone says RELAX, does this make you feel even more ANXIOUS? Okay so nobody likes it when they are told to RELAX. This simple word can cause someone with ANXIETY to feel threatened or devalidated. Despite the negative connotations with this word, there is actually deep benefits in what's called IMT (Inductive Muscle Therapy). IMT involves creating a spontaneous and sometimes mystical source of relaxation through intermittent tensing and releasing of major body muscles. How Does IMT Work? IMT is quite simplistic in nature. Usually the tension you feel during episodes of anxiety can be redirected to muscle tension. By focussing on specific muscles to tense and then forcefully relaxing them before moving on to the next muscle is enough to start the relaxation process. In order for this method to fully bring about relaxation, muscles in the face, neck and chest must have tension. Tension can be applied by squeezing that muscle for extended periods of time and then successively releasing them. The inductive part of the therapy comes from inducing relaxation by redirection the tension in your brain (Which is also a muscle) to other parts of your body. The successive tension and releasing of this tension sends a message to the brain that it is safe to feel relaxed. How Often Should I do IMT? It doesn't hurt to perform IMT every time you feel anxious. Once you do it enough, it will become natural and you may develop a tendency towards using IMT as a stress reliever. Try it out and post here your results!

...See more Hello there! I am sure many of you (including myself) find it challenging to get work done in a productive manner. Well I am here to tell you that you aren't alone and that I have a couple of helpful challenges to get you moving again! What is School? Well in summary it is a place where we LEARN . RESEARCH . EVALUATE and so when creating these challenges I kept these in mind. Often when we procrastinate it doesn't affect the LEARN or the EVALUATE because we mostly go to class and attend our examinations. It is the RESEARCH that gets us. So you are already 66% productive if you go to class and your exams! Well here is the first challenge! 1. RESEARCH: Study - The most productive way to study for a procrastinator does not require alot of writing, but a simple task. Taking a blank sheet of paper, on both sides fill up as much notes from the lecture slides / class notes that you can fit. Include diagrams which you would draw out yourself. Make the font as small as possible so you can fit alot. Once you are done filling up both sides THAT's IT! Now over the course of a few days, when you are "Procrastinating", you will have that sheet of paper that you can just stare at. Because of the combination of pictures and text, you can absorb as much information as you wrote down. Flip the page over a few times reading what you have written but never having to touch your computer. This is the best method that I found gets me good marks! ALSO, don't forget to subcategorize each topic so that the topics don't run together on the page. AND don't make it too messy ;) 2. RESEARCH: The Goal - The second challenge gets you moving everyday. Set a goal for yourself to do at least 1 thing a day towards your education, be it adding a paragraph to a paper, or researching a topic, or reading through a lecture. Most of us are scared of the giant workload we have and end up being productive for one hour and then goofing off for the rest. SO use that hour to do the most important thing on your list. Tackle it then BREATH! You'll find you will get more done in a week and you will feel accomplished because you did something everyday! These are just simple strategies I have used in my education and now I am in my Master's Degree teaching other young minds! Cheers, @CurrySoup12

Does their job really well! It's like talking to a therapist.
Thanks for listening
Wonderful listener. They really do pay attention to what you’re saying and care to try and help you figure out your emotions. I’m really grateful for the chat.
A very useful chat, very little nonesense and actually deep subjects. He gave me a very thorough idea of things and left me a little smarter than when I started, but a little more lost. Definitly a good chat, the only way it might have been better was if we had the time to really dig into what I needed.
