...See more Staying present, being grounded, focusing on the moment or being mindful: All of these are phrases that we hear quite often. We know that they can be helpful in countless ways. Whether we are focused on healing from traumatic events, have desire to slow down and pay attention to the beauty of a hike along the shore, cherishing the moments with our children, closest friends or a even during a special event with a loved one we inherently understand our lives can be enriched through this practise. Yet often as I glance at the latest research or pick up a casual publication, I have found that staying present (being mindful) can mean many different things to different people. So today, I thought it may be enlightening to discuss what it means to each of you by sharing our unique perspectives. Feel free to: 1) Express what being present (or mindful) means to you in your daily lives 2) Tell us how has the practice been beneficial to you as you heal or stay focused on the events of the day 3) Talk about what the challenges are as we try to engage in this practise Or Please stop in just to say hello and let us know how your day is going. I love to hearing from you as I watch this community thrive into a wonderful, supportive place where we unite to celebrate our successes and receive the compassion we need when facing some of life's challenges. It is wonderful to be back as I am consistently inspired by the individuals who have come together to form this safe haven. ...See more Hello everyone, I hope that your day is going well. As I read through the posts on yesterday, I was so impressed with the way everyone works by the open expression of emotion and willingness to support one another. I have always had a tremendous appreciation for this community. The unique experiences we have all had allow us to come together and find the common ground so we may help one another heal. I wanted to focus on some of the other ways we have found to take care of ourselves. What are some of the things that you have found helpful to find a little bit of serenity when things seem chaotic? How do you stay present or simply relax? Do you use imagery, go for a run, spend time at your favorite hiking trail or park? One very important part of my process that remains in place to this day is to find a way to smile. It may be through watching a good show on Netflix, playing with my puppy, finding a bit of live music to enjoy or simply doing something kind for someone else. I hope that each of you will find something special to do for yourself today. Just take a moment to breathe deeply, feel yourself relax and let go of the stress that comes with some of the challenging times you have faced during the week. Allowing yourself to rejuvenate is a gift that allows you to keep moving forward on moment at a time. Let's see how many ideas we can find to share with one another today so we can continue to be positive, strong and find the courage to heal together. ...See more Hello everyone, What a busy and exciting week we have had with all of the special events! I hope that everyone was able to participate as it evoked so many emotions within me. People were very open about their experiences that alone was enough to motivate me to become more involved. If you feel like talking about it, there is one item that I see quite often in many discussions. There is understandably a great deal of emotion surrounding those who have harmed, bullied, failed to validate or assist us in our time of need. My experience was very similar in that I spent a great deal of time looking outward at the person or people who did not treat me well. It was an attempt to either change their behavior, understand their behavior or try to change myself with the hope of no longer feeling vulnerable. In reality I had absolutely no control or responsibility for the other person's poor choices and/or behavior. It wasn't until I began to look within focus on myself, my feelings and responses to their behavior that I began the healing process. It was a wonderful gift that I was able to give myself after a long time of resisting that act of self-compassion. By removing the focus from them, I was healing myself and becoming stronger. In essence, taking the power away from them. How do all of you focus on your healing by emphasizing your well-being as opposed to the desire to change or understand another's poor choices or harmful behavior? Have you found a sense of peace with the knowledge that you are empowering yourself by practicing this act of self-compassion? If this topic is not one that you wish to discuss today, I would love to hear about what is happening in your healing process or how you are feeling. Do you have any plans for a favorite activity? Be well everyone and thank you again for supporting me while I was taking care of my parents and not quite feeling myself. This community is very important to me and even when I am not as active, I am still thinking about you and your progress. I do hope you find some bright moments in your day. ...See more Good morning everyone! What a joy it is to be back and getting into the swing of things. As I was out unexpectedly caring for family members, I found myself acutely aware of a feeling that could be described as loss or simply an emptiness. As I watched the medical teams moving quickly and elegantly around my father earlier this month; and my mother, a few days ago, I realized how beautifully everyone worked together. It was like watching a carefully choreographed community working in tandem to provide individualized, compassionate and experiencial knowledge to offer the patients a chance to heal. Everywhere I looked I saw groups of family, friends and even strangers coming together to provide one another support. I realized at that moment what a integral part of my life this community has become. The unconditional support, the compassion, the validation and experiencial knowledge courageously shared to benefit another. To let them know that nobody should go through this alone. This is our space and everyone can be pround of their contribution to this wonderful community. It you would like to share something that you find comfort in please feel free to share. If not, please pop in and say hello. Let us know. how you are feeling today. ...See more Hello everyone! It is good to be back and feeling well again. As always, the people in this community have been on my mind. The wonderful stories of healing, the courage it takes to be honest when we are having difficult days, and the amazing amount of support that we all show to one another. It is a safe place for us to share and know that we will be met with unconditional, compassionate support. One of the things, and there are many, that I truly admire about everyone here is that we are all on our own paths toward healing. People are working hard everyday to overcome whatever challenge they may be facing. We all know how important it is to take care of ourselves as we venture along our healing path. Some days we may push through and others we know that it is best to slow down, step back, take some deep breaths to bring us gently back to the present and then revisit what is on our minds. Through all of the inspiring stories, there is so much to admire about the intrinsic nature of the moments that we take to feel the joy of the simple things in life. The passing smile of a stranger, the laughter of a child or just taking a walk on a beautiful day. How do you all know when it is time to push through a challenging time? Do you feel comfortable stepping back from a difficult time and revisiting it when something inside tells you it is time to take a deep breath? I would love to hear your thoughts on this. I do hope that your day is bright. If it is a challenging one, stop by and we will be here to support you. This is your safe place to be with others who truly listen. @Halogen @BubblegumPuppy68 @ScarletPear1945 @CaloenasNicobarica @Hoxenos @Christine1980 @TheresaWilliams @Compassionatelistener108 @LovelyChantel @Pureriver56 @unassumingSummer6022 @Reedrainshimmer @resourcefulPond1642 @Kuma0187 @NonHoPaura @courageousNorth9872 @NacienteLuz @Waterlily16 @Helpfulsoul64 @TheHoneyDoll @Saif1for1Resilience @butters45 @purpleWest8143 @silverIceCream21 @Dandelionmoon @Bumblebee16 @consciousawakening @Shaiya365 @archerzvy @JJi @CopingwithTrauma @musicheals61 @disneynerd23 @ScarletPear1945 @Longday08 @sittinginahoneymoon @Quietbeach @loyalYard9488 @thatdramaticsoprano @understandingJackfruit9057 @amiableZebra3993 @Waterstreams057 @placidFriend3007 @AndreT @orchard9786 @Myosotis17 @sociableSailboat9634 @Calmlake1999 @emotionalMaple9419 @calmballoon3183 @disneynerd23 @MomRNFNP @Pdanziger @easymap6620 @MoreThanAConqueror18 @candyhaunt @namelessgirl99 @plumLake851 @streamoftears @quixoticRaven @Redhawk6547 @Sk1ttles @Shayc1 @Samdoc99 @Mikathewolfdog @FrankieDylan

...See more Hello all, What a day to remember all of the progress we have made during the year! Through all of the ups and downs, we have established a brilliant, safe community that offers support that so many of us benefit from visiting. In the spirit of the final day of the year, I look back, finding myself feeling a sense of gratitude for so many things. At times, they felt like like trials which leads me to one of my favorite stories that I keep coming back to over the years. I hope you enjoy it as it is one of hope, realizing that we don't know what positive outcomes may come out of a seeming negative event and most of all the idea that all things are possible if we are willing to breathe and give our lives the opportunity to unfold without judgement. Once upon a time there was an old farmer who worked on his crops for many years. One day, his horse ran away. Upon hearing the news, his neighbors came to visit. "Such bad luck", they said sympathetically. "Maybe", the farmer replied. The next morning the horse returned, bringing with it three other wild horses. " How wonderful", the neighbors exclaimed. "Maybe", the old man replied. The following day, his son tried to ride one of the untamed horses, was thrown and broke his leg. The neighbors again came to offer their sympathy on his misfortune. "Maybe", answered the farmer. The day after, officicals came to the village seeking young men to help them with their battles. Seeing the son's leg was broken, they passed him by. The neighbors congratulated the farmer on how well things had turned out. "Maybe", said the farmer. The moral of the story is we cannot judge a singular event as the end of the story. We never know how things will actually turn out. Our lives are comprised of a chain of moments unfolding in an instant. Through patience, we can often look back and find an unexpected outcome that enriches our lives. This year, it was a very personal lesson as my family learned of my father's illness. While I would never have wished it upon anyone, he is doing extremely well, learned how to accept help (huge for my Dad) and it gave me the opportunity to see an entirely different aspect of him that I will forever treasure. Please feel free to share the moments of your life today. They may be moments of gratitude or perhaps you are waiting for " the outcome of this part of your story". Either way, as a member of the team, I am grateful that your are here and willing to enrich my life through sharing the courageous moments of yours. Thank you all. I wish each of you a happy, peaceful New Year. With love and safe hugs

...See more Hello Everyone, I hope that everyone is doing well today. This is the season where everything seems rushed and often the unanticipated delay occurs. It is the perfect opportunity to talk about teamwork and how important we are to one another. This community thrives because of the hard work of so many of those who dedicate themselves to this family. There is always someone who is happy to step in. I am thankful to be working with such caring individuals. I also want to take the opportunity to thank all of you who have shared their stories, listened with unconditional positive regard and replied to posts simply to let me know that you are standing beside me. I have found inner strengh, courage and inspiration by getting to know each of you. While it is late in some parts of the world, please know that I am a bit of a night owl and will be here throughout the evening. Please feel free to check in and let everyone know how your day went, what your plans are for the evening or simply want to say hello as we all rush through this busy time of year. I would love to hear from you as this night owl always enjoys seeing the compassion within this community. ...See more Good morning everyone, Yesterday, we wrote about the very special individuals in each of our lives who have been important or made a difference as we all make those positive steps in the healing process. Today, I am hoping to continue with that positive theme. If you would like to, please share a time when things may have seemed a bit more chaotic than we would prefer and through mindfulness, the smile of a stranger, a call from a friend or just watching a sunset things seemed to settle us into a safe, less chaotic and more joyful place. I will be happy to begin as I happen to have had one of those seemingly chaotic days on Friday. I was in a hurry to get home as the snow began to turn our 5 lane highway into the equivalent of a parking lot. I promise, my car was actually in Park for most of my commute. I finally arrived home only to discover that the power was out. Oh my, all of those committments were stalled temporarily. So, I did the one thing that I truly love and went for a walk in the newfallen snow. The moment I walked outside and became mindful of the beauty that surrounded me, heard the laughter of the children and received warm smiles from neighbors the stress just melted away. I sat with the scene for a while and realized that this was one of those times when I was not in control of the things creating my anxiety, but certainly was in control the time I spent appreciating the positive aspects of the moment. If you cannot think of a specific time, that is okay too. I would love to hear from you and know how you are doing today. It is always nice to see the familiar faces of my trauma family pop up on the screen. As always, be kind to yourselves and make sure that self-care is a part of your day.
