...See more Just two weeks ago I was diagnosed with Bipolar II at age 63 though this has been a misdiagnosed problem for over 40 years. Previously I have been treated for depression and anxiety. The daunting task was to find all the right therapy and support that wasn't going to break the bank. Amazingly I have been able to find the medication support as we are on the road to get the right mix there and hopefully this week I will meet with a talk therapist to work through the things in my head. It is a relief to know that it is not a defect of character but rather a real medical condition that can be treated. I know it will not be easy but taking the first step is the hardest part.

...See more I've struggled with mental health on and off since my teenage years. In the past, I've been diagnosed as depressed and general anxiety disorder. For the last 10 years or so I've been on an emotional roller coaster of mood swings with a coping mechanism of keeping much hidden from others. I saw a mental health counselor yesterday at my primary care clinic who agrees that I meet the criteria a diagnosis of bipolar but they only do short term treatment. So now I'm in search of a Dr. covered by my insurance. I just started Effexor XR since currently I'm moderately depressed. I KNOW that if I flip to more manic state I would probably not seek treatment. Hope I can find someone soon that can see me.
